New Bus Service on Highway #3

A new bus service is now operational on Highway #3!

Mountain Man Mike’s Bus Service now runs from Kaslo to Vancouver (with stops along the way) on Saturdays, with a return trip from Vancouver to Kaslo on the Sundays.

The bus will make stops in Manning Park as requested.

To book Mountain Man Mike’s Bus Service with a pick-up or drop off in Manning Park, please book as if you are going to Princeton, and under the “Drivers Notes” section, put in “Manning Park.”

See the website and book your trip online: https://mountainmanmikes.ca/

Not only does it stop in Manning Park, but it is also environmentally friendly!

“Mike’s buses run on recycled restaurant frying oil and using his proprietary process for turning french fry oil into driving fuel, Mike can achieve almost three times the fuel efficiency of other buses. Being environmentally friendly and cost-conscious is important to Mike; he wants to respect the environment and also respect your pocketbook. Offering competitive rates, no hidden fees, and a flexible hop-on hop-off fare system you can be confident you’ll get to where you need to go, when you need to be there, and without any headaches.”

Telescope Rentals Now Available

The Manning Park Dark Sky offers some of the best night sky viewing around. Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing this month by renting one of our new telescopes!

July 20th marked the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and the world’s first moon landing by Neil Armstong & Buzz Aldrin.

We are excited to announce that we now have beginner telescope rentals available!

The Celestron FirstScope Telescope is a portable and lightweight table-top design with a 76 mm reflector optical tube. It is easy to store, transport and setup. FirstScope is very easy to observe with; the user simply navigates the night sky by moving the tube in the direction of their desired object.

We now have 5 telescopes available from the Front Desk on a First Come, First Serve basis.

They are available for rent from the Front Desk for $7 for guests, or $5 for members of our Dark Sky Mailing list.
To sign up to our Dark Sky Mailing List, fill in the form here: http://eepurl.com/dqKVlr This is a monthly newsletter about Manning Park Dark Sky experiences and some beginner astronomy news. Connect with us by joining the Dark Sky Mailing list!
Here’s some of our basic tips for using this beginner Celestron FirstScopes:
  • Learn the constellations of the sky without the use of a telescope first.
  • Read the books! We’ve included two great books with the telescope kit to help set your expectations for what you might be able to see with the telescope:
    •  “50 Things to See with a Telescope for Kids (And Parents Too!)” – John Read
    • “Turn Left at Orion” – Guy Consolmagno & Dan M. Davis
  • Adjust your eyes to the dark, and if you require a light, use the red light that is included in the kit.
  • Find a sturdy place to put the telescope, like a picnic table. (There are some at the Lightning Lake Day Use and at Spruce Bay Beach)
  • Start with an easy target – like the moon.
  • Have patience; it can take a lot of practice to use the telescope.
  • Have fun!

Online Auction for Chairs now on!

Auction for Charitable Organizations

Auction #1: March 23-30

Link: https://www.32auctions.com/OrangeChairAuction1

Acution #2: April 1-6

Link: https://www.32auctions.com/OrangeChairAuction2

Pay what you want to have a piece of Manning Park’s history!

Manning Park Resort is hosting an online auction for ten chairs from their iconic Orange Chair which has been in place since 1970 but is being retired at the end of this season.

The chairs from the Orange Chair have been an incredibly hot commodity for local users who want to own a part of the place where many happy ski and snowboard memories have been made.

Most of the chairs have already been given away through a social media contest under the hashtag #IRodetheOrangeChair, and through an online First Come, First Serve sale. The sale saw such huge popularity that it caused technical difficulties for the website!

“Despite the efforts that were made in advance to fortify the system to allow for the expected volume, we were definitely overwhelmed with the positive response to the sale,” Marketing Coordinator, Robyn Barker says, “It’s pretty amazing that there’s so many people that love Manning Park!”

The online auction runs until March 30th for 5 chairs, and another auction will occur from April 1st to 6th for another 5 chairs.

The proceeds from each chair auction will be donated to one of five local charitable organizations that live and play in Manning Park. These include the Hope Mountain Centre for Outdoor Learning, the Friends of Manning Park, Canadian Ski Patrol, Manning Ski Club and the daily Interpretive programs at Manning Park.

The distinctive Orange Chair will be taken down immediately following the end of the ski season on March 31st. Work has already begun to prepare the location for the arrival of a brand new Doppelmayr quad chairlift.

A “Last Chair” Fest will take place on March 31st to celebrate the end of the season and the end of an era for the 49-year-old chairlift. All are invited to attend and are encouraged to wear retro ski gear, bring their oldest Manning season pass for a chance to win a commemorative T-shirt, and meet at the top of the Orange at 3pm for a toast.

Wow, what an overwhelming response to the sale!

Wow, what an overwhelming response to the sale!

Congratulations! We broke the website.

We are so sorry for the challenges that our form posed for the sale this morning. Despite the efforts that we made in advance to fortify the system to allow for the expected volume, we were definitely overwhelmed by the positive response to it! This caused our system to crash, although it did allow for some payments to be completed.

Well, I guess it’s pretty amazing that there’s that many people that love Manning Park right?

We did our best to try stay on top of it, but I know there must have been some panicked moments. We apologize for any stress this has caused!

If your payment went through for the First Come First Serve Sale, your name is on the following list.

If your name is not on the following list and if you had any issues with the sale form this morning, please send us a private message to let us know what name and time you were accessing the form. Email to [email protected].
