Presenting… The Bear Chair!

Last month, we put the vote to you to name the new quad chair from our top 4 choices, and you have answered!

Thank you to the nearly 1500 people who voted to give the New Quad Chair its name – Presenting…

The Bear Chair!

Congratulations to Pam Lamoureux, one of our long-time Manning locals, for being the first to submit the winning name! She has won a season pass and will be on the first chair ride up on our anticipated opening day of December 7th.

This fun and family-friendly name is a fitting one for the new chairlift, which allows you and your family to ride up 4 to a chair. It is now ready to go to take skiers and boarders up the mountain!

The Bear Chair also matches with the new brand for Manning Park Resort. We dropped a sneak peak last month of the new look and logo that we will be moving forward with this winter, along with a new website coming in time for the ski season.

Watch for it at the upcoming Abbotsford Winter Extreme on November 16-17th.
We’ll also be doing a

Season Pass Show Special:

If you missed the October 31st deadline for the Early Bird season pass rate, we’ve got one last chance to get it at the Early Bird rate at the Abbotsford Winter Extreme Ski & Board Swap this November 16-17th at the Abbotsford Exhibition Park.

November in Manning Park

There’s lots happening as we prepare for the winter season. While we are working on the new Alpine Guest Services building for the ski area, and the new premium cabins, you can still catch some beautiful autumn hiking weather, stargazing or a cozy fire at the Resort this November.

We hosted two great #ManningParkDarkSky Astronomy Weekends in October, and we’re still looking upwards for clear skies this fall, with our Dark Sky Discount! Sign up to our Dark Sky Mailing List to learn how you can save 25% on accommodation from now until December 5th.

The BC Parks trail report provides some information about the trail conditions in the park. Although the Manning Park larches have now dropped their golden needles, there are some beautiful hikes to go on! Be prepared to encounter snow on the higher elevation trails.

We are anticipating snow this month, with an expected opening date for the Nordic trails for November 30th-December 1st. Snowshoes will be available from the Front Desk when the snow flies.

The Ski Area opening weekend is expected for December 7-8th, so be sure to put it on the calendar to join us for the Grand Opening of the Bear Chair.

Are you excited yet? We are too!
Your adventure starts here at Manning Park Resort.

We have been busy this fall!

Not only do we have a brand new quad chairlift at the ski area opening this December, a new Alpine Guest Services building, and new premium cabins being built, but we have something else up our sleeve that we wanted to tell you about…

To tie all this exciting growth together, we have a new look for Manning Park Resort, which includes a new logo. Then, we’ll be launching a new website in time for the winter season.

We are going to give you a sneak peak of this updated brand at the Vancouver Winter Extreme snow show this weekend on October 19-20th! Come down to check it out, see some photos of the new lift, and let us tell you about the exciting news this winter.

There’s snow on the mountains and we can’t wait to gear up for the season. The Vancouver Winter Extreme is an excellent place to get new and used winter equipment. See you there!

We are also present at the WestCoast Women’s Show all weekend, so stop by to chat with our team at booth 335.

The winning name nominator will win:

A 2020/2021 Manning Park Season Pass!
and… the first to ride the new chairlift!

Please note that the Top Submitters have already been contacted.

Why did we choose these 4 names?

Great question! These names were chosen because we saw multiple entries of each name, showing that there are many of our season passholders and locals that find it suiting for the new quad lift at Manning Park Resort. We then put these names to the test and found that they resonated with our long-time management team as names that celebrated the beautiful location we are in, our natural, wild environment and they all have lasting, universal qualities.

The names can stand alone and be understandable, or you can also know the significance of them.

Here’s the names, along with our favourite reasons for why people thought they were suiting names too:
The Bear Chair “There are so many beautiful bears in Manning, we should celebrate them!
And a bear’s paw is fierce, fast and strong, just like the new chairlift will be.”
“Suiting for the park! The parks emblem is a bear paw, it would just accent the great ski hill you have :-)”
“Every where you look in Manning you see bear prints so I think this is fitting for the new big chair”
Hozameen Chair “Look back, you’ll know why.”
The beautiful view from the top of the former Orange Chair has the Hozameens in it. It is the background of thousands of pictures from the top of the chair formerly know as The Orange.
Crowsnest Quad Chair Manning Park is quite isolated, and the only highway you can take is the Legendary Crowsnest highway [BC Hwy #3]. Without it, Manning Park would not exist… The name represents the highway Manning Park was built on, and Quad, represents the new era Manning Park will face. Long live the Orange Chair, say hello to the Crowsnest Quad!
Cascade Quad Manning Park is located in the Canadian Cascades, so the name reinforces a sense of place and also is fitting because it’s descriptive for the shape of a mountain.
The Cascade Range or Cascades is a major mountain range of western North America, extending from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California.

New Quad Chairlift Construction Complete

The ski area at Manning Park Resort has been a flurry of construction all summer. The installation of the brand-new quadruple chairlift is now complete, and a brand-new Guest Services building is also close to being completed. The mountain is looking forward to welcoming guests for the coming winter season.

Construction of the Doppelmayr four-person chairlift started immediately following the retirement of the long-standing Orange Chair in April. The new quad chairlift follows the same profile of the iconic Orange Chair but with a lower bottom station. This allows for loading closer to the base area and puts up to four riders on the chair essentially doubling the capacity for riders.

Owner, Kevin Demers, takes a seat on the new chair with a big smile to see it all come together, “I am, of course, very excited that the new quad chair is totally finished. We are ready for snow!”

A contest is running to name the new quad chairlift, with submissions being accepted via the Manning Park Resort website until September 25th. “We will choose our favourite three names to then be voted on by the public,” says Demers. “Whomever submits the winning name suggestion wins a winter season pass, and the chance to ride the first chair when the ski area opens in December.”

Progress also continues for the new Alpine Guest Services building on the mountain which will house the Ticket Office, Rental Shop, Snow School and new washrooms all in one building.

Much of the exterior wood for the construction of the Alpine Guest Services building came from reclaiming fallen trees from the chairlift project and base area construction. The wood was milled onsite and then used for siding the building. With this new facility it has allowed for the movement of several other smaller buildings to more strategic locations, which will create more guest parking.

Local contractor, Barclay Fletcher, is constructing the Guest Services building this fall along with an additional eight new premium cabins that will open before this coming winter. “I am very excited to see the totally new look of the ski area and with the new premium cabins expected to be completed by Christmas,” Demers says, “we’re looking forward to a great winter.”

Manning Park Resort’s anticipated opening day for the ski area is December 7th.

For more details on year-round accommodations or the New Quad Chair Name Contest, visit manningpark.com. Name nominations are being accepted until September 25th and voting for the top three names will run from September 30th-October 30th, until the end of the Early Bird season pass rate.

If you’re sitting on the fence about whether to get a season pass this year, let us help push you in the right direction! We’ve had a huge amount of improvements at the Resort over the past few years, including the new premium cabins, and we are going to ramp up the excitement at the ski hill this year to get you ready for the season!

Here’s what’s New this year at Manning Park Resort:

  1. Run brush cutting and glading… we know you are going to be excited when you hit the slopes this winter! Our trail crews have been working hard and clearing a ton of brush to provide wider runs and some glading on existing runs. Check out this before & after photo of the Tree Well black diamond run. There’s a ton of new area brushed on the ski hill and more run enhancements planned – this is big news!
    Before

    After

  1. A new grooming machine is coming to Manning! This new Pisten Bully will be a welcome addition to our fleet and will provide great groomed conditions this season.
  2. Drum roll please…. announcing our new terrain park sponsor – Rockstar! We have got some new rails up our sleeves for the Terrain Park at Manning this year! Stay tuned for an announcement early this winter to unveil what you will be hitting in the terrain park this season.
  3. The Blue Chair is now open Mondays! We’re giving a new meaning to having a case of the Monday Blues.

To get you skiing on Mondays, we’ve got a brand-new package that we’re calling the “B&B – and Ski” package. Stay at the lodge on Sunday or Monday night, and get breakfast and a lift ticket for $35! This offer is available exclusively for skiing on Mondays. See details here: http://winter.manningpark.com/bb-and-ski-package/

  1. Enhanced reciprocal: Just show your Manning season pass and get TWO free days at Mt. Seymour, Mt. Apex & Mt. Washington. This adds another $500+ value to your season pass. Some conditions apply.
  2. Do we have to mention that we have Olympic snow? Ok, we will! During the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, when cherry blossoms were blooming in Vancouver, and snow was needed to run the winter events, snow was trucked in from Manning Park to the local Vancouver mountains. Another little-known fact, it was on this Olympic snow that Canada’s Alexandre Bilodeau won the first gold medal of the Games! Not only do we have Olympic snow – but this year, we are excited to introduce you to a new member of our team, who was an Olympic groomer operator too!
  3. Early Bird Rate is only until October 31st – so now is the time to buy!

We’ve already had the first few snowfalls of the season and we’re not done yet with the exciting news for the ski hill yet, so stay tuned! It’s going to be a great year on the slopes!
