Why did we choose these 4 names?

Great question! These names were chosen because we saw multiple entries of each name, showing that there are many of our season passholders and locals that find it suiting for the new quad lift at Manning Park Resort. We then put these names to the test and found that they resonated with our long-time management team as names that celebrated the beautiful location we are in, our natural, wild environment and they all have lasting, universal qualities.

The names can stand alone and be understandable, or you can also know the significance of them.

Here’s the names, along with our favourite reasons for why people thought they were suiting names too:
The Bear Chair “There are so many beautiful bears in Manning, we should celebrate them!
And a bear’s paw is fierce, fast and strong, just like the new chairlift will be.”
“Suiting for the park! The parks emblem is a bear paw, it would just accent the great ski hill you have :-)”
“Every where you look in Manning you see bear prints so I think this is fitting for the new big chair”
Hozameen Chair “Look back, you’ll know why.”
The beautiful view from the top of the former Orange Chair has the Hozameens in it. It is the background of thousands of pictures from the top of the chair formerly know as The Orange.
Crowsnest Quad Chair Manning Park is quite isolated, and the only highway you can take is the Legendary Crowsnest highway [BC Hwy #3]. Without it, Manning Park would not exist… The name represents the highway Manning Park was built on, and Quad, represents the new era Manning Park will face. Long live the Orange Chair, say hello to the Crowsnest Quad!
Cascade Quad Manning Park is located in the Canadian Cascades, so the name reinforces a sense of place and also is fitting because it’s descriptive for the shape of a mountain.
The Cascade Range or Cascades is a major mountain range of western North America, extending from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California.

New Quad Chairlift Construction Complete

The ski area at Manning Park Resort has been a flurry of construction all summer. The installation of the brand-new quadruple chairlift is now complete, and a brand-new Guest Services building is also close to being completed. The mountain is looking forward to welcoming guests for the coming winter season.

Construction of the Doppelmayr four-person chairlift started immediately following the retirement of the long-standing Orange Chair in April. The new quad chairlift follows the same profile of the iconic Orange Chair but with a lower bottom station. This allows for loading closer to the base area and puts up to four riders on the chair essentially doubling the capacity for riders.

Owner, Kevin Demers, takes a seat on the new chair with a big smile to see it all come together, “I am, of course, very excited that the new quad chair is totally finished. We are ready for snow!”

A contest is running to name the new quad chairlift, with submissions being accepted via the Manning Park Resort website until September 25th. “We will choose our favourite three names to then be voted on by the public,” says Demers. “Whomever submits the winning name suggestion wins a winter season pass, and the chance to ride the first chair when the ski area opens in December.”

Progress also continues for the new Alpine Guest Services building on the mountain which will house the Ticket Office, Rental Shop, Snow School and new washrooms all in one building.

Much of the exterior wood for the construction of the Alpine Guest Services building came from reclaiming fallen trees from the chairlift project and base area construction. The wood was milled onsite and then used for siding the building. With this new facility it has allowed for the movement of several other smaller buildings to more strategic locations, which will create more guest parking.

Local contractor, Barclay Fletcher, is constructing the Guest Services building this fall along with an additional eight new premium cabins that will open before this coming winter. “I am very excited to see the totally new look of the ski area and with the new premium cabins expected to be completed by Christmas,” Demers says, “we’re looking forward to a great winter.”

Manning Park Resort’s anticipated opening day for the ski area is December 7th.

Nordic Opening – December 8th!

We are looking good to open Nordic for this weekend – December 8th!

The Nordic Centre will be open on Saturday & Sunday from 9am-4pm for cross-country ski, snowshoe and skate rentals!

With cold and clear conditions this week, we have been able to skidoo groom our Nordic trails around Strawberry Flats and South Gibson area. This is for classic cross-country skiing; there is no skate lane at this time. Watch for early season conditions, have fun and dress warmly! The conditions are cold and crisp. Trail tickets are at a discounted rate of $10/adult, $5/junior.

Please note that snowshoeing is not permitted on the cross-country trails, but check out the other great snowshoe trails around Lightning Lake and beyond.

Ice skating rink: We are flooding the rink nightly and it is setting up beautifully with these subzero temperatures. We are expecting it to have a portion of it ready for this weekend.

The ski hill will not be open this weekend. We are looking for one more big snowstorm before we’re able to open it, but the forecast is looking pretty good for next week.

Stretch out those cross-country ski quads and see you on the trails this weekend!
